Programme conditions
International teleworker visa/residence authorization: visa authorizes residence and work in Spain for one year, followed by a residence permit
Who qualifies
Third-country national (non-EU), of legal age, working remotely (as employee or self-employed with a commercial contract of at least 3 months) for a company established outside Spain, exclusively via computer and telecommunications systems
Working for local clients
Under an employment relationship, work is only for the foreign company. Under a professional (non-employment) relationship, work with a Spanish company is allowed but must not exceed 20% of total professional activity
Family
Spouse or partner in an analogous relationship, minor children, financially dependent adult children without their own family unit, and dependent ascendants may apply jointly or subsequently. Family members may work in Spain without restrictions, both as employees and self-employed
Documents
- Completed and signed application form (Form MIT)
- Legible copy of all pages of a valid passport or travel document
- Proof of fee payment (form 790 038)
- Proof of employment/professional relationship of at least 3 months with the foreign company (employment or professional contract)
- Proof of real and continuous activity of the foreign company for at least 1 year (certificate from the commercial registry of the country of origin)
- Documents proving sufficient financial resources (payslips/invoices for the last 3 months, bank certificates)
- Letter from the foreign company authorizing remote work from Spain, detailing job profile, functions, salary in euros, and working conditions
- Worker's curriculum vitae (translated if necessary)
- Copy of a degree related to the position, or proof of at least 3 years of experience in a similar role
- Documentation on Social Security registration (General Regime for employees or RETA for self-employed) or certificate of applicable legislation from the country of origin
- Certificate of no criminal record from country/countries of residence for the last 2 years, plus a sworn declaration of no criminal record for the last 5 years
- Public or private health insurance providing coverage equivalent to the National Health System
Applying & insurance
How to apply
The visa application must be submitted at the Spanish consulate in the country of residence. Direct application for a residence authorization from abroad is not possible. The residence authorization can be requested in Spain no earlier than 60 days before the visa expires
Insurance
Public health insurance (through Social Security registration) or equivalent private insurance from a company authorized to operate in Spain is required. Travel insurance, reimbursement-only policies, or those with waiting periods or co-payments are not accepted

If there are 60 days remaining before visa expiry and it is still valid, an initial residence authorization may be requested. As long as requirements continue to be met, a change to another type of authorization under Law 14/2013 may be requested at any time
